Thru the Earth walkway
Kim Abeles is an artist whose community-based projects explore biography, geography and environment. In 2006, she created an installation right on our very own campus. Thru the Earth was funded through the School Beautification Program and serves as an entryway into our welcoming community. Visit Kim’s website to read her biography and visit some of her other works throughout Los Angeles. This past week, Kim returned to Community Magnet to repair and restore the Thru the Earth walkway. Fun Fact: If you were to begin digging a hole directly through to the other side of the Earth, you would emerge at the Kerguelen Islands. The next time you’re walking on the Thru the Earth walkway, see if you can find the Kerguelen Islands tile.
