Guidelines & Expectations

School-wide Rules & Consequences for Students

Respect the rights, feeling and property of others.
Keep hands, feet and other objects to yourself.
Follow directions of school personnel.
Play safely:

Run only in organized activities supervised by school staff
Climb on apparatus only at recess, lunch, P.E. with supervision
Kick balls only during supervised games
Stay in designated areas
Keep equipment in designated areas
Eat only in designated eating areas

Keep our school clean.  We mean it!  Recycling cans are everywhere.  Make sure your child is shown where to throw their trash, and where to recycle containers, as is clearly marked. 

No toys, candy, gum or any item that detracts from the learning process.

Consequences

Step 1 – Reminder
Step 2 – Staff/student conference
Step 3 – Time out
Step 4 – Office referral
Step 5 – Parent conference

In most instances, the above steps will be followed; however, consequences may be determined depending on the severity of the action.  (15 minutes of clean up; toys, candy or gum taken away.  Toys returned to parent only.)  Parent will be contacted to bring appropriate clothing.

Guidelines for Safe and Appropriate Dress

Shoes should be appropriate for play.  No open toed shoes.  Clothing (hats/caps) should not detract or interfere with school activities.

School wide Norms for all Stakeholders (Parents, Teachers, Students and Staff) & Uniform Process to Solve Problems for Stakeholders

A uniform process to solve problems at Community School has been developed.  All stakeholders are expected to use appropriate language and attitudes at all times; to respect all people, their right to an opinion and their property; issues should be directed to the source, confront and respond to issues in a respectful manner, and find PROACTIVE SOLUTIONS, versus focusing on the negative.

1) Problem

Go to the source.  Within 7 days of contact, meet to plan how to solve the problem with agreed upon    timeframe = problem solved

2) Problem

Within 7 days of contact, meet to plan how to solve the problem with agreed upon timeframe.  After agreed upon timeframe has passed, and problem in not resolved with satisfaction, written correspondence from source restating original agreement and asking for follow-up.  Requires a written response from source within 7 days and copy to principal.  Meet to plan how to solve the problem with agreed upon timeframe = problem solved.

3) Problem

Progressive discipline:  Staff – Parent – Child
Written correspondence to the complainant the process has moved to level 4 = Problem Solved!

Gossip is detrimental.  Please avoid discussion of an issue with anyone other than the source
