A NOTE TO FIFTH GRADE FAMILIES: The eChoices application must be submitted the prior year in the Fall for enrollment. Click here to view the 2019-2020 eChoices Timeline. PLEASE NOTE that the eChoices application is only for new students applying to Community Magnet and 5th grade students matriculating from Community Magnet and going into middle school. PLEASE DO NOT apply to another magnet school if your child is already attending Community Magnet and in Grade 1-4 unless you would like to leave Community Magnet. If you apply and your child is accepted into another magnet school, your child will be dropped from our list. Your child does not need to accrue wait list points if already enrolled in a magnet . . . they will matriculate with maximum points.
Meet our Fifth Grade Teachers
Hello! My name is Danielle and I teach the wonderful 5th grade Fantasticos of Room 13! I am going into my sixth year of teaching and my second year here at the beautiful CMCS. Prior to teaching at Community I taught 4th and 5th grade in South LA. I love to teach reading from a multi-cultural perspective and especially love to use picture books that reflect my amazingly diverse classroom community. I believe every child should have the opportunity to see themselves positively reflected in the literature they read!
A fun fact about me is that I love to travel and taste food from all over the world. My favorite trip was to Thailand where I played with elephants for a day…they have some REALLY juicy kisses! I am also a UCLA alumni and a huge Bruins fan…can I get an 8 clap! Most weekends you will find me training my dog, hanging out with my niece and nephew, or crafting on my Cricut!

Hi, I’m Brandon. I began my life at Community as a TA in 5th grade in the spring of 2001. This is my 17th year as an LAUSD teacher. I am originally from New Orleans. I am a former high school/college athlete. I am an artist, writer, avid gardener, and insatiable reader. I am a father and a husband. I earned my degree from Antioch University of Los Angeles and benefitted from an educational setting not unlike Community’s. Antioch is one of the oldest liberal arts institutions in the nation. It was the first school to hire female faculty and the first to hire an African-American professor. I strive to bring that sensibility and awareness into my classroom.

My name is Kirsten, and the 2019-20 school year will be my 18thyear as a part of the Community family: first as a CATCH Mentor, then as a parent to three Community kids, substitute teacher, technology teacher, and classroom teacher. Prior to teaching at CMCS, I was a high school and middle school English teacher, and I also taught at an elementary science magnet in LAUSD. I love reading, writing, music, art, coffee, dragons, and dogs – not necessarily in that order.
